“One Spirit One Victory” BRT U16 women’s basketball championship – BRTK
As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) the BRT Under 16’s women’s basketball championship is being held under the theme “One Spirit One Victory”.
Teams from Türkiye and Azerbaijan are also participating in the championship hosted by Levent Sports Club.
The championship will last for two days.
The BRT U16 women’s basketball championship is being organized within the framework of the 60th anniversary celebrations of Bayrak Radio Television Corporation.

Speaking at the opening of the championship Bayrak Radio Television Corporation director Meryem Özkurt said that BRTK, which was established on December 25, 1963, has been announcing the voice of the Turkish Cypriots to the world for 60 years.
“We are the people of states that speak the same language with different dialects. I would like to thank Levent Schools for hosting the event. I welcome our teams from Türkiye and Azerbaijan and wish them a good championship” said Özkurt.
The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Basketball Federation Orhun Mevlit for his part noted that Levent Sports and Levent College have always made the TRNC proud abroad with their women’s basketball team.
Stating that basketball will be enjoyed to the fullest for two days with the championship, Mevlit said, “We are here to grow the sustainable basketball family. We will continue to be here.”
President Ersin Tatar congratulated those who contributed to the organization and expressed his pleasure at seeing the guest teams in the TRNC.
Emphasizing that the embargoes imposed on children and young people in the TRNC in sports are outdated, Tatar said, “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told the international community on every occasion that this is outdated. With our might and your support, all these obstacles are being overcome step by step”.
Congratulating Levent schools and BRTK for the organization, Tatar said, “Today, what is essential is brotherhood. Your games will bring us even closer. Motherland Türkiye, Azerbaijan and TRNC will be stronger together.”
After the speeches were completed Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre carried out the opening air throw of the Championship.
The 2-day BRT U16 Women’s Basketball Championship will be completed with an award ceremony to be held tomorrow at 14.00 after all six matches have been completed.
